Vita

"Born 1919, in Lewisboro, New York, Bennett studied in Chicago at the American Institute of Art and the American Academy of Art.
Starting around 1950 he produced some 650 paperback covers for Fawcett, plus 475 for Pocket Books, 250 for Berkley, 65 for Dell and 5 each for Ace and Ballantine.
Bennett has claimed that his 1960 cover for Mary Stewart's 'Thunder on the Right' is the first Gothic cover; but this claim may not hold up as others have claimed that valid Gothic covers had appeared nine years earlier. Bennett's Gothic covers are realistic; his fantasy covers, on the other hand, are impressionistic; after painting he often used a razor blade to create special effects."
